As a member of the Sundew family, this plant captures and digests insects using its glandular, sticky dew-covered leaves, which glisten in light and lure prey. This species is known for its compact rosette growth and vibrant reddish-green hues, making it a perfect addition to specialised terrariums or vivariums. Adapted to nutrient-poor, acidic soils, it thrives in high humidity and bright, indirect light. Ideal for experienced enthusiasts, this plant offers a unique window into nature’s ingenious adaptations for survival.

Planting Instructions

  • Use a pot or terrarium with a mix of sphagnum moss and silica sand (2:1 ratio).
  • Ensure excellent drainage and avoid fertilisers, which can harm the plant.
  • Plant in shallow soil, ensuring the roots are covered, but the crown remains above the substrate.
  • Place in a high-humidity environment with a consistent water source, such as a water tray.
  • Use distilled or rainwater only.

Care Instructions

  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist with distilled or rainwater; avoid tap water due to mineral sensitivity.
  • Light: Provide 12–14 hours of bright, indirect light daily or use grow lights with a high PAR rating.
  • Humidity: Maintain high humidity (75–90%) using misting or a closed terrarium setup.
  • Feeding: Supplement diet with small live insects if natural prey is unavailable.
  • Pests/Diseases: Watch for fungal growth or mould in overly stagnant conditions; ensure adequate air circulation.
  • Pruning: Remove dead leaves to prevent fungal infections and maintain aesthetics.
