SCULPTED BY NATURE

Light, expressive and naturally sculptural, DAWN Spider Wood combines warm sandy-beige tones with sweeping roots and intricate branching.

Description

DAWN Spider Wood is natural hardscape with character from every angle. Each piece creates instant structure and movement, from delicate planted compositions to dramatic statement hardscapes.

Defined by its warm sand-to-honey colour, flowing root forms and unpredictable branching, DAWN brings a lighter visual character to the aquarium than the darker woods commonly used in aquascaping. Thick structural sections transition into twisting limbs and finer roots, creating depth, movement and natural complexity without making the layout feel visually heavy.

No two pieces are alike. Some spread horizontally with long, sweeping branches; others rise from substantial root bases and naturally create the impression of fallen trees, exposed roots or weathered woodland forms.

Its open branching structure makes DAWN particularly versatile in planted aquascapes. Mosses and epiphytic plants such as Anubias, and aquarium ferns can be attached directly to the wood, allowing the hardscape to gradually become integrated into the planting. Multiple pieces can also be combined to create larger root systems, tree-inspired structures or complex focal points.

The naturally pale finish is one of DAWN's defining characteristics. Rather than the deep red-brown often associated with some Spider Woods, these pieces feature softer beige, sandy and warm golden tones that work particularly well with green planting, dark substrate and stone.

DAWN is equally useful where the hardscape itself is intended to be the centrepiece. Larger specimens can create substantial structure in bigger aquariums while retaining the fine detail and asymmetry that make natural wood visually convincing.

Suitable for freshwater aquascaping, paludarium and terrarium applications.

What makes DAWN distinctive

  • Pale natural colour — sandy beige through warm honey rather than dark or strongly reddish wood.
  • Expressive branching — a combination of substantial roots, twisting limbs and finer branch detail.
  • Highly sculptural forms — each piece creates its own direction, movement and focal points.
  • Excellent planting structure — natural branches provide multiple attachment points for mosses and epiphytic plants.
  • Versatile aquascaping scale — available from S through XXL, with selected exceptional pieces offered individually as WYSIWYG.
  • Natural individuality — shape, colour, branching, texture and proportions vary from piece to piece.
Size & Selection

Standard pieces — S to XXL

Standard sizes are selected according to their overall dimensions and visual mass. Because DAWN is a completely natural product, pieces within the same size category will vary considerably in shape and branching.

The product photographs for standard sizes should therefore be treated as representative examples rather than the exact piece supplied.

WYSIWYG pieces

Exceptional or particularly distinctive specimens are offered separately as WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get.

For these listings, the photographed piece is the exact piece supplied. Its individual dimensions should be shown on the associated product photo.

Before Use

Rinse DAWN Spider Wood thoroughly with clean water and gently brush away any loose dust or debris before use. Do not use detergents, household cleaners, bleach or other chemicals.

Natural wood may initially float and can take time to become fully waterlogged. Soaking the wood before installation is recommended. Larger pieces may need to be temporarily weighted down or securely attached to aquarium-safe stone or slate until they remain submerged naturally.

Some tannin release is normal and may temporarily tint the water amber. The amount varies between individual pieces and usually reduces gradually with soaking and regular water changes.

A white or translucent biofilm may also appear during the first weeks after submersion. This is a normal occurrence with new natural wood and is generally harmless. It will usually disappear naturally or can be removed during routine maintenance.

Boiling is not recommended. Prolonged exposure to boiling water can alter and weaken the cellular structure of natural wood, particularly finer branches and thinner sections. High heat combined with rapid moisture changes can also increase the risk of cracking, softening and structural deterioration. Over time, this may shorten the useful life of the wood. Gentle soaking in clean water is the preferred method for preparing DAWN Spider Wood while preserving its natural structure and form.

Because every piece is naturally formed, inspect any fine or pointed branches when positioning the wood and consider the size and behaviour of the livestock that will inhabit the aquarium.
