ZOOLEK Aqua Test Ca-Mg
Buy Now, Pay Later Available
ZOOLEK Aqua Test Ca-Mg is used for accurate and fast measurement of calcium, magnesium content and general hardness in freshwater. The method is based on titration, i.e. the reagent should be added drop by drop to the measured water sample until the proper colour change is obtained per the chart attached. For Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions concentration, measurement results are read in mg/l. General hardness is expressed by Degrees of German Hardness ( 1 °d).
Why measure the content of calcium and magnesium ions in fresh water?
Apart from the total concentration of calcium and magnesium (general hardness) in planted aquariums, the relative proportion of these element concentrations is also of great importance. Sometimes, despite the suitable general hardness, a deficiency in calcium can occur. The presence of magnesium is essential to ensure proper plant growth as the chlorophyll molecule, which is responsible for photosynthesis, contains a magnesium ion. The accurate ratio of magnesium to calcium is 1:5. Aquatest Ca-Mg is also used to carry out high-accuracy measurements of general hardness in a wide range of values.
How to control calcium and magnesium levels in fresh water?
Regular control of the content of calcium and magnesium ions in aquarium water by the aid of Aquatest Ca-Mg is recommended. In the case of elevated calcium and magnesium levels, a partial water change is advisable. It is also possible to use Filtrax GH/KH flow bags to lower general/carbonate hardness (resulting from the quantity of dissolved calcium and magnesium).
